Meet our DYWR.HUB organising team member: Lotte Vermeire

Hi everyone!

I’m Lotte Vermeire, a PhD researcher in Communication Sciences at imec-SMIT, Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), in Belgium, where I’ve been working since 2020. I’m excited to be part of the Digital Youth Work Research Hub and to connect with others who are passionate about empowering young people in the digital age.

My research focuses on the intersection of digital youth work, digital inclusion, and data literacy. In my PhD, I explore how digitally inclusive initiatives can foster data and digital literacy in both formal and non-formal educational settings. I’m especially interested in how data practices affect young people’s opportunities for participation and empowerment, not just in the classroom but also in community-based and youth-led initiatives. Through my research, I aim to contribute to bridging the gap between technological innovation and social inclusion.

When I’m not doing research, you’ll probably find me reading a novel, baking something for my loved ones, or exploring new places.

I feel fortunate to be part of this warm community and motivated to continue working toward more inclusive and empowering digital youth work. Feel free to reach out, I’d love to connect and chat!

Curious about my work? You can explore some of my recent publications here or contact me via LinkedIn.
