Truths

“Truths” is a series of educational and creative sessions designed for people with disabilities, focusing on digital equity and culminating in a series of digital artworks to raise awareness. This project brings together a unique collaboration among a transdisciplinary community artist skilled in engaging local and international communities, an NGO with deep expertise in inclusive art practices, and a collective of active disabled creators—including artists, TikTok influencers, and journalists. Combining our diverse skills and perspectives, we aim to create a safe, participatory space for co-creation.

The project aims to address access to the performative arts, equip participants with relevant skills, and serve as a platform for self-representation, especially in exploring the intersectionality of identity. By challenging the one-dimensional portrayal of disability often seen in media and the digital world, “Truths” seeks to amplify diverse voices and perspectives on disability, representation, and advocacy.

The project provides a space to question ableism in the digital world, underscoring that there is no single “accessible” experience for everyone; what works for one person may not work for another. This raises important questions: Does digital technology offer true empowerment for disabled individuals, or does it become an excuse for society to avoid creating more comprehensive systems of support? Through these discussions, “Truths” aims to examine the role of technology in either perpetuating or reducing inequalities and the need for digital strategies that are adaptable and responsive to real-life experiences. The project’s impact lies in raising awareness of these complex issues through digital artworks that challenge prevailing narratives on disability, accessibility, and inclusion. The approach combines theories of politics and the body, queer theory, disability studies, and creative methodologies such as performance art, live and documentary theatre, cinema, participatory filmmaking, accessibility expertise, and community-based research. The innovation of “Truths” lies in blending these diverse elements to create a holistic view of digital equity, aiming for lasting cultural and social change.
